Hello! My name is Lori Malette. The 2009-10 school year marks my fourth year working at Brushton-Moira Central. Last year I spent much of the year working as a fourth and fifth grade reading/math consultant teacher. Prior to that I had the privilege of teaching tiny first graders. It’s amazing how much they grow academically, socially and most of all in size. Other experiences working at BMC include time spent as a 3rd grade teacher assistant with several weeks of the year spent as a long-term substitute 3rd grade teacher and one summer teaching incoming 2nd graders during a summer reading camp. This year I am excited to have a permanent position teaching 4th grade. I enjoy this age group immensely. They strive to become more independent and in many cases have found their academic-niche. Because of this, they often create their own goals and challenges. This makes it exciting for me as I have to find ways to link all the students’ strengths and interests to provide activities which meet the standards and make learning challenging, yet exciting. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and the classroom setting and can’t imagine a profession more suitable for myself.

I was born and raised in the North Country. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master’s in Childhood Education with an Early Childhood extension from SUNY Potsdam. I also hold an Associate’s degree in Interior Design from Cazenovia College.

My family keeps me busy! My husband, Mike, is a musician and also works at BMC. He works for the maintenance department, and I couldn’t be more thankful that he has learned to be such a Mr. Fix-it! From putting up a wall, to tearing apart my computer, there’s nothing he can’t do. Our son, Kylor, is 12 years old and has such a creative mind. He is kind, helpful, and a friend to all. Kalista, our daughter, is 9. She sings and dances like an angel with an artistic flair to boot. We couldn’t be more proud of them both!

My hobbies include spending time with my family, reading, photography, traveling, and going out to eat. My favorite family past-times are board games, snuggling and watching a movie, four-wheeling, and nighttime story time.
